Thunderous Applause: “Omukade” Shakes Vienna at SLASH Film Festival 2025

Making a name as far as Europe, the horror film from Neramitnung Film, “Omukade”, traveled for its first World Premiere screening at the SLASH Film Festival 2025 (18–28 September 2025) at Film Casino cinema in the heart of Vienna, Austria.

The screening atmosphere was lively, with the audience filling the cinema to capacity and engaging with every key scene in the story, from the jump-scare horror moments to the bits of comic relief. By the time the film ended, applause echoed throughout the entire cinema.

“Omukade” marks the return of directing duo Phakphum Wongjinda and Chalit Krailertmongkol. The story goes back in time to World War II, when a mine somewhere in Thailand became the lair of “Omukade,” a giant centipede from Japanese legend transformed into a wrathful demon. Its unfortunate victims are Japanese soldiers and prisoners of war who happen to wander into forbidden territory. The film blends intense action scenes, horror in a sealed-off setting, and themes reflecting on war, becoming entertainment that is both thrilling and haunting at the same time.

The SLASH Film Festival is regarded as one of Europe’s most distinctive horror and sci-fi film festivals, curating only films that are “different” and “jaw-dropping” from around the world. Omukade being chosen as one of this year’s highlights stands as confirmation of the power of Thai film, ready to make its mark on the international stage.

“Omukade” is set to bring its horror to cinemas soon.
