“4 Kings II” Moves Audiences to Tears, Overcomes Controversy to Break 120 Million Baht in Just 7 Days

From an intense sequel to yet another Thai film that has moved audiences to tears more than any other this year, “4 Kings II (2023)” closes out the year for Neramitnung Film and Shinesaeng Ad.Venture. Directed by Phut-Phutthipong Nakthong, it stars Laem-Sompol Rungpanich, Jee-Suttirak Sapwichit, Big-Ukrit Willebrord Don Gabriel (also known as Big D Gerrard), Tu-Sirat Indrachot, Fay-Phat Eksaengkul, Max-Nattawut Chenmana, Benjamin Joseph Varney, and Top-Thossaphon Maisuk — the film currently drawing the most attention from moviegoers.

Although a great deal of controversy swirled around “4 Kings II” before its release, once the film officially opened, the criticism reversed course, and it became yet another film that drew more tears from audiences than any other this year — exactly as director Phut-Phutthipong intended, wanting viewers to see that “every action always has a consequence.” This propelled “4 Kings II” to gross over 120 million baht in just 7 days, smashing the record set by the first film, which took 13 days to cross the 100-million-baht mark.

The story of “4 Kings II” centers on the clash between two rival institutions, Kanok and Buranaphon. It begins one night when “Tummeng, of Kanok” (Top-Thossaphon) is ambushed and beaten nearly to death. “Bang, of Kanok” (Laem-Sompol) plans his revenge against the rival institution’s pair, “Ek, of Buranaphon” (Tu-Sirat) and “Rok, of Buranaphon” (Jee-Suttirak). When the accumulated grudge finally comes due, Bang and Rok face off, with Yat, a local kid (Big D Gerrard), becoming the wildcard who ignites the major confrontation, raising the temperature on this act of revenge even further.
