Neramitnung Film Heats Up: Korean Giant Redice Co-Invests in Horror Film The Cursed Land, Set to Go International

It marked a surprising turn for the Thai film industry when Redice Entertainment, a leading entertainment conglomerate from Korea, chose to co-invest with Neramitnung Film in the psychological horror film The Cursed Land, directed by Panu Aree, written by Kong Rithdee, with Nonzee Nimibutr serving as producer overseeing production, and distributed worldwide by WME Independent

Tanthai Narongkul, Chairman of Neramitnung Film Co., Ltd., presided over the signing ceremony for the co-investment in The Cursed Land between Kanokwan Watchara, Chief Executive Officer of Neramitnung Film Co., Ltd. and Mr. Woogy Han, CEO of Redice Entertainment, from South Korea, witnessed by Mr. Nelson Mok, Agent at WME Independent

Tanthai Narongkul said he was delighted that Redice Entertainment, a leading global entertainment distributor and investor and the producer of the famous Korean webtoon SOLO LEVELING, recognized Neramitnung Film's potential, leading to this joint investment. This has sparked international interest in Thai film content, driving recognition at the global level, under the soft power policy, one of the industries the government is promoting.

Kanokwan Watchara said this success stems from Neramitnung Film's roadshows at various film festivals abroad, which brought strong interest to the studio's films and led to this co-investment. Building on the success of the first 4 Kings, which earned 170 million baht, and 4 Kings II, which surpassed 240 million baht, this stands as a guarantee of quality. In addition, Doi Boy, another film from the studio, has drawn interest in the global market after being selected to premiere at the 2023 Busan International Film Festival.

Meanwhile, The Cursed Land has attracted major interest from international film markets, which is expected to significantly benefit Neramitnung Film's business and further strengthen the entertainment business, particularly the Thai film industry as a whole. The Cursed Land tells the mysterious story of a Buddhist family who moves into an old house in a Muslim community, before falling prey to a curse haunting the area. It stars Ananda Everingham, Jennis Oprasert, and Bront Palarae from Malaysia (Satan’s Slave), and is set to open in cinemas in mid-2024.
