MORRISON Unveiled: A Director's Boldly Imaginative Film, Declaring Only Hugo Could Play Jimmy

The official trailer has launched for MORRISON, the second feature from director Puttipong Aroonpheng, which has been selected to screen at the 28th Busan International Film Festival (28th BUSAN International Film Festival) in South Korea. It carries a guarantee of quality from his acclaimed film Manta Ray (winner of the Orizzonti Award for Best Film, 2018, at the 75th Venice Film Festival).

Kanokwan Watchara Chief Executive Officer of Neramitnung Film Co., Ltd., together with Rujiporn Sitthiwanich, Project Director of Shinesaeng Ad.Venture Co., Ltd., held the press screening launch for “MORRISON” a film born from the inspiration of director Puttipong Aroonpheng, with Hugo Chakrabongse, Airin Sriklaew, Suda Chuenban, and Joe Cummings in attendance, along with fellow cast members who came to watch and offer congratulations, including Pae Arak Amornsupasiri, Hana Tasanawalai Chakrabongse, Sai Charoenpura, and Jessie Mekwattana, at Level 5, Paragon Cineplex, Siam Paragon.

Hugo Chakrabongse, who plays Jimmy, marks his return to the film industry after 8 years.

“Throughout my life, I’ve been approached with a lot of scripts. This one was interesting when I read it, and combined with the visual language I saw in Manta Ray, it made me decide that I had to do this film.”

“The character in the story is a former musician turned engineer who comes to inspect a building, an abandoned hotel. The role is quite different from my real life, because this particular part was something I felt I had to do. Reading the script, I understood that they wanted it to be me. What I loved about this film was both the script and what I could feel from the monitor while filming, the mood told through the camera. I was just one part of the scene, that’s all,” said Hugo.

Director Puttipong Aroonpheng opens up about why the role of Jimmy had to go to Hugo.

“I wanted Hugo ever since I was writing the script. I once worked as an art director on the film 999-9999, and didn’t run into him again after that, but I took a chance and reached out. After Hugo read the script, he agreed to take the role. Hugo said, ‘If it’s not me, I don’t know who else it would be.’ I didn’t change anything about Hugo to fit him into this role.” MORRISON is a film that takes audiences on a mysterious journey through the scars of war, told from a perspective like no other. Starring Hugo Chakrabongse, Kitty Chicha Amatayakul, Joe Cummings, Airin Sriklaew, and Sahatchai Chumrum, it opens in cinemas on 11 April.
