Playing a Time-Loop Film Isn’t Easy — “Ob” Enjoys “Happy Monday(S)” with “Sai Charoenpura” as Acting Coach

“Do whatever you want — who’ll remember by tomorrow anyway!”

The release is getting closer for the romantic comedy “Happy Monday(S)” from “Neramitnung Film” together with “Shinesaeng Ad.Venture,” from fiery young director Kor–Chakri Chaipreecha, starring cool leading man Ob–Obnithi Wiwatnawarang opposite rising female star PP–Punpreedee Khumprom Rodsavas, along with Poon Mitrpakdee, Victor–Chatchawit Techarukpong and Bell–Warissara Jitpreedaskul joining this wonderfully chaotic time loop.

The film also brought in veteran actor Sai Charoenpura to join the cast and serve as acting coach, because performing in a time-loop story demands an especially high level of detail from the actors, requiring an acting coach who understands the script and can interpret performances well, while the actors also have to do their homework and understand their own roles.

Director Kor-Chakri said, “I’ve been close with Sai for a long time. Directing my first film, I wanted someone I trust to work with me. Since this story is a time loop, I wanted Sai to act as a compass for Ob-Obnithi, to help guide him on where the emotion of each scene stood — because acting in a time-loop film can get confusing very easily, especially for Ob, since everyone else plays consistently the same, but Ob is the only one who changes. And we didn’t shoot the film in story order, we jumped around — so Sai helped guide us through that. But really, Ob and the other actors did great; everyone understood everything very quickly. We were lucky to have Sai help oversee this, because she doesn’t come across like a teacher — she’s still very much an actor herself, so there’s a connection there, and she has a way of talking that lets actors understand each other quickly.”

Obnithi revealed, “Playing a time-loop film isn’t easy at all — it takes a lot of attention to detail. When I found out the acting coach was Sai, I felt relieved, because I believed she’d help a lot with our performances. Once we started working together, Sai turned out to be a great support, always pushing the younger cast forward. She once told me, ‘Ob, you can already act, you don’t need me,’ but sometimes we need several minds working together to make sure this comes out the best it can be — figuring out together how to drive the character as far as possible. Sai would run around briefing the actors on set, and she’d arrive before everyone else just to brief the cast. At first, Sai would let us act it out on our own, watching how we interpreted it, then we’d meet in the middle on what Kor wanted — comparing how he saw it versus how we saw it.” Don’t miss it!
