“Laem Sompol” Goes All In for “4 Kings II (2023),” Channelling “Bang Kanok” — Once Struggled to Shake the Role Off

After creating a stir with a special-guest appearance in “4 Kings (2021)” the distinctive young singer Laem Sompol Rungpanich has now decided to take a starring role in the big-budget film “4 Kings II (2023)” directed by Phut Phutthiphong Nakthong the latest work from “Neramitnung Film” together with “Shinesaeng Ad.Venture” marking his first time fully committing to a role — this time Laem threw himself deep into the character of “Bang Kanok” so completely that he could barely shake the role off

Laem Sompol revealed, “Ever since the team first contacted me, I already knew there was going to be a ‘4 Kings II (2023).' If you watched ‘4 Kings (2021),' you'd have seen me appear near the end — it was like a hint to stay tuned for the next album. Before I started filming, director Phut Phutthiphong took me to meet the real Bang Kanok in person, so I could get a feel for who he really is. In his school days he was probably quite the troublemaker, but after going through more of life, he's become a lot more relaxed. As for the acting side, I'm a musician, not an actor. I'm not an actor — coming into a film was a whole new learning experience for me. Luckily, I got to take a two-month acting course, studying every scene in the film, to really connect with the character in depth. Coach Rom Romchat has acting techniques that guide us through it — he recreated scenarios to take us into Bang's childhood, to see what he went through and what he lost”

“Bang's character is a troubled kid, but the way it comes out is through violence — it's an automatic way of protecting himself. He doesn't want anyone to see the vulnerability deep inside. Was it hard becoming a full-fledged actor? I'd say the hard part is having to switch myself back and forth, because it's not who I really am. Getting into and out of a role is quite important — you have to understand how to enter and exit it. I myself once struggled to shake off Bang. I had to use breathing techniques, and sometimes yoga, to release what had become muscle memory — that's an acting technique too. I try to stay in a place that's peaceful for me, and I have to notice for myself what really feels like home. Every day, we humans play all kinds of roles, but in the end we have to go back to the place that is home,” said Laem Sompol.
