“Ob” Makes a Major Character Turn as a Cheeky Young Guy, “PP” Debuts Her First Film Bringing Fresh Energy to “Happy Monday(S)”

Call it another must-watch film from Neramitnung Film, because besides being the studio’s first rom-com, “Happy Monday(S)”, a work from up-and-coming director Kor-Chakri Chaipreecha, is also the first film in 4 years for talented leading man Ob-Obnithi Wiwatnawarang, and the first-ever film for rising female star PP-Punpreedee Khumprom Rodsavas as well.

Ob-Obnithi said, “I haven’t acted in a film for almost 4 years. Honestly, a lot of films had reached out to me during that time, but whenever I read the scripts, none of them made me feel like I truly wanted to do it. It’s not that the other films weren’t good, but sometimes I’d played similar roles before and didn’t want to repeat the same image — I wanted to do work I was genuinely passionate about. The reason I decided to audition for this one is because I’ve wanted to do comedy for a long time, to try something new and gain new experience. For this film, I play ‘Earth.’ On the outside, Earth might seem like he has no direction in life, but his goal right now is that he likes Sai Mai and wants this woman to be his girlfriend — and once he gets the chance, he goes all in. This role is quite different from anything I’ve ever played before.”

“As you know, it’s a time-loop film. After finishing reading the script, I noted that Earth gets stuck in the loop for around 88 loops, and I tried writing out what the character encountered from loop 1 through 88. We traced what we already knew from each previous scene, and how his thinking would change going into the next one. As for why I pay attention to detail like this, it comes from genuine passion — when I love something, I want to do my homework as thoroughly as possible. As for working with PP-Punpreedee, she’s very dedicated to her acting. Usually, someone new to the industry gets nervous about auditioning, but PP had zero nerves at all. Once we started working together, she was focused, did her homework, and even had the skill to banter right back at me. On set, I like to chat with people and tease them, and she’d fire right back — so much so that Ob and PP developed a motto: whoever gets the last word wins,” Ob said.

PP-Punpreedee revealed, “This is my very first film. When they contacted me for the audition, I was so happy. I’ve always dreamed — having done TV drama before — of moving up to film, because people always say shooting a film is different from shooting a drama, you have to act much more naturally, with just a single camera. I wanted to try something new, to grow. When I got cast, I was thrilled — ‘Wow!’ I get to be in a film. This film is such a wonderful debut for me.” As for the role of ‘Sai Mai’ that PP plays, the first time she read it she felt the character was mean, but on a second read she understood that Sai Mai is simply someone who wants to succeed in life, just focused on her own dreams and her own path, without meaning to hurt anyone. Sai Mai is determined, doing everything she can to reach her goal — and in today’s real world, most people want to succeed in life too.

“Working with Ob was fun, funny and full of joy. Coming to set always felt enjoyable. Honestly, everyone on the crew and the other actors were lovely, and we really enjoyed the whole experience. I first met Ob during the audition, to see if we had chemistry. When we met, he seemed pretty serious when he greeted me, and I wondered if he’d even want to joke around with me since I was the new kid. But once we started working together, he turned out to be playful and loves to tease — working with him was easy and fun, and he teases literally everyone on set,” PP said.
